The Story

Sennheiser HE 1
Relive the story

The story began in September 2015, when one million people built the monument to sound. Monolithic boulders descended from the heavens and people like you made sound sculptures, revealing the boulders’ inner sound. Now, each of these sound sculptures rests in the foundations of the completed Sennheiser HE 1 – excellence has taken on a new form. Relive the story of its creation.

The headphones: materials unmatched in quality

The purest of all audio, shielded from the chaos and disruption of the outside world, is now ready to emerge from the heart of the monument.
It ascends through the silver-plated copper cable, chosen for its optimum conductivity, and when it flows from the ear cups, a sound of a purity never before experienced is born. The hypoallergenic and breathable ear cups, hand-made in Germany, and of genuine leather, ensure the highest possible comfort that allows the listener to immerse themselves entirely in an audio experience that is itself a monument to sound.

Patented MOSFET amplifier integration

To the very point at which the sound leaves the headphones, the monument is performing acts that have never been seen in the history of sound reproduction. The Cool Class A MOSFET high-voltage amplifiers, integrated directly into the cups of the headphones, help the monument achieve ultra-high impulse fidelity and increase efficiency by 200% over other currently available sound reproduction equipment.

The monument is the true ruler of the sound waves, producing frequencies across the spectrum from as low as 8 Hz right up to 100 kHz.
It descends to deliver basses far lower than any human can perceive, and flies high to sing at a frequency way up out of our reach, in a part of the audio spectrum that only bats can discern. The platinum-vaporized diaphragms are exactly 2.4 µ thick, the result of extensive research that shows that any thinner or thicker would be sub-optimal. Because the quest for perfect sound is not about highest, lowest, thickest or thinnest, but about one superlative and one superlative only: best.

Decoupled tube amplifiers

The foundation on which the perfect sound experience rests: perfect silence. At the heart of the monument to sound is a vault of pure silence, locked in with Sennheiser technology and heavily guarded against interference of any kind. The lowest harmonic distortion ever measured in a sound reproduction system, patent-applied-for circuit design that combines the best of tube and transistor amplifiers, and the quartz barrel around the tubes all eliminate acoustic noise from the outside world. Leaving you to enjoy perfect sound against the perfect backdrop.

A foundation of finest Carrara marble

The monument to sound rests in a foundation of the finest Carrara marble. Stone from Carrara's mountains has been crafted into some of civilisation's most precious treasures: in sculptures, such as Michelangelo's David, and monuments including the Pantheon. The material’s beauty transcends the visual: anchoring the amplifier tubes to this block eliminates structure-borne noise thanks to its high density. The block itself is suspended to protect it from the noise and vibration of the outside world. High-quality quartz bulbs shield the vacuum tubes from airborne noise. The controls on the front of the monument to sound are painstakingly engineered to the highest quality: each is milled from a single piece of brass before being chrome-plated. For generations, artists have moved mountains to work with high quality materials such as these. Today, with a commitment as enduring and unshakeable as the Carrara marble itself, you have joined their ranks.
